India wins Oscar shortlist
Oscar Ceremony, No Indian film has been nominated for an Oscar in 21 years. This time, four movies and documentaries will compete for that nomination. Such a day has never come in the history of Indian cinema. These works made it to the shortlist for the 95th Oscars. All in all, the short list of Oscars is India’s winner.
Shortlisted films include ‘Last Film Show’ in the ‘International Feature Film category, ‘All That Breath’ in the Documentary Feature category, and ‘The Elephant Whispers’ in the Short Documentary category. Apart from this, the movie ‘RRR’ has been nominated for the best song category in the main category directly at the Oscars.
There is no end to the speculation about the submission of films from India to the Oscars every year. Last month, the Film Federation of India sent the Gujarati film ‘Chello Show’ to the Oscars, overshadowing the question of whether ‘RRR’, ‘KGF-2’ or ‘Kashmir Files’ will go to the Oscars. US-based magazine Variety predicted last August that if ‘RRR’ is sent to the Oscars, the film could get an Oscar nomination from India after 21 years. Apart from this, many people in India were saying that not only the nomination but also the best film at the Oscars, the film of the successful NTR Jr., Ram Charan. Later, however, ‘Last Film Show’ was submitted to the foreign language film category. Even after this, the producer of ‘RRR’ did not stop. The movie was officially released in Hollywood. As such direct Oscar submissions are made for almost all categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. However, it is not possible to say whether he will be nominated for any branch of the first row or not. Of these, SS Rajamouli’s film ‘Natu Natu’ has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Song’ category out of 15 songs at the Oscars.
Never before have two works from India been nominated in the Documentary category together. This time ‘All the Breaths’ and ‘The Elephant Whispers’ set records. All the Breaths’ was previously awarded in the ‘Golden Eye’ (L’Oil d’Or) category at the Cannes Film Festival. Expatriate Bengali director Shaunak has made his film about the survival of birds in the darkness of Delhi’s environment-damaging air and escalating violence. Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad are the two brothers in the center of this picture. Their house is in Wazirabad, Delhi. In the basement, they have built a hospital for injured birds. In particular, they rescue and treat almost extinct black chiles. The story takes a new turn based on that formula. 15 documentaries received nominations in this category.
The Elephant Whispers
On the other hand, ‘The Elephant Whispers’ tells the story of a tribal couple and an orphaned elephant. The couple takes care of the elephant after getting it, taking care of all the duties including keeping it alive with food. In this 41-minute documentary, it will be seen that this tribal couple gets involved in the love of elephants. Through this, the director has brought out the love for the wildlife of South India and the beauty of wild animals, which this tribal couple shares. It is directed by Karthik Gonsalves. This is the only one of his career. It is among the top 10 short documentaries.
The list of 10 Oscar categories was announced earlier this morning. The list also includes Makeup and Hairstyle, Sound, Visual Effects, Original Score, Original Song, Animated Short, and Live Action Short. This time Nuhash Humayun’s ‘Mashari’ from Bangladesh participated in the live-action short category. Ultimately the short did not make it to the shortlist. Among the works on this list, the top 5 works will receive nominations for the final competition of the Academy Awards. The list of 5 nominated movies will be known on January 25. Voting for this list will start from January 12 to 17. This year the Oscars will be held on March 13. The name of the final winners will be known on that day.
Earlier in 1957 and 1988, ‘Mother India’ and ‘Salam Bombay’ received Oscar nominations. After a long break, Aamir Khan starrer ‘Logan’ received an Oscar nomination in the foreign language category in 2001. None of these other films received nominations. It’s pretty much certain that four works will get a nomination this time. Time will tell whether you will get it or not. Before that, ‘Writing with Fire’ was nominated for the 94th Oscars in the Documentary category from India. It did not win the award. The documentary is directed by Sumeet Ghosh and Rintu Thomas.
